A young man contemplating marriage sought advice from Diogenes. "Should I marry?"
"Marriage is too soon for a young man"
"Would you have me wait then until I am old."
"Oh no, Marriage is far too late for an old man."
"What am I to do then? I love the girl."
"Love is a luxury no one can afford. It is for those who have nothing better to do."
"What should we be doing then?"
"To seek freedom. But it is not possible to be free if you have a wife and children."
"But having a wife and family is so agreeable."
"Then you see the problem, young man. Freedom would not be so difficult to attain were prison not so sweet."
"You mean to be free is to be alone?"
"We come into the world alone and we die alone. Why, in life, should we be any less alone?"
"To live, then, is terrible."
"No, not to live, but to live in chains."
I just found out that the gargoyle has married the porcelain doll.
ReplyDeleteI was the classmate of the porcelain doll (sat next to her for one whole year) and vaguely knew the gargoyle.
I don't know who won or who lost.
I don't understand.
wonderful post, and alas, without mysteries and ironies life would be boring.
ReplyDeleteYa, i found out abt that last month and was shocked. But, seeing how both of them are GSB's i have a pretty fair idea what may have happened. It probably went somenthing like this.
ReplyDeleteGirl: My parents are planning on getting me married to some guy who works in Infosys (lets face it, Half the GSB's seem to be in Infy)
Guy: But i cant marry you yet, i have to do my PG
Girl: Well, my parents cant wait
Guy: Okay, Okay, lets get married.
Also, i dont think you know this. But Porcelain Doll and Gargoyle have been seeing each other since 11th, that is 7 years. Longevity Zindabaad.
ReplyDeleteso can i assume this gargoyle's loaded?
ReplyDeleteNot exactly, its more a question of love, true love (i think)
ReplyDeletethe "who won who lost" comment.. what does it mean?
ReplyDeleteActually who won , who lost is the literal translation of an old Hindi song (originally in tamil ) called "Rukumani , Rukumani , shaadi ke baad kya kya hua ?
ReplyDeleteKaun hara kaun jeeta etc "
Here is the original in tamil
so why the reference to the song?
ReplyDeleteAhh...Only KCG and I know the true meaning ...The reference is not to this song actually but to another song called Roja Jaaneman ...This is just another song of the movie with the consumnation of the marriage as its subject !
ReplyDeleteHey KCG , remember Roja ?
I found an english translation of the song. (Hail Google!) I think I know what you guys mean.. hmm...
ReplyDeleteYa, i remember being shocked when they started singing "Roja Jaaneman" in the music day. I just realised it, i was just happy i realised who u were talking about from the vague hints given in the entry.
