Its all about me !
Yes , it might come as shock to you (or may be not ) but I'm very self centered.
In this movie , Ranbir Kapoor plays a serial seducer, a player who doesn't really let a string of broken hearts bother him too much.
Although I did go to the movie with 3 females (strange coincidence ?), I didn't feel one bit like Raj Sharma, the lead of Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Infact , I realised that I'm nothing like him , or can never be.
And started making a mental list right there.
Here it is ...reasons why I'm not a seducer(or will never be)
1)Its my personality .I'm a charmer, not a seducer...After being with me you'll end up smiling, laughing and feeling good about yourself.
2)My hobbies include visiting art galleries(they're mostly free !) , museums and book stores and other boring things.
3)Watching movies is akin to a religious experience. If you expect any monkey business, you'll be disappointed.I keep my hands to myself !
4)I don't eat out .I don't like to.
5)I never make the first move...never had to !
6)I can never seem to tell when someone likes me or not.(I just assume that they all like me and act accordingly)
7)I can't flirt even if my life depended on it.The art of double entendre and erotic insinuation is lost on me.
8)I'm a mama's boy.It might seem counter intuitive, but mama's boys make better relationship material, but most women don't think so.
9)I constantly tell women that I'm very inexperienced and bad with women.
10)I seriously don't expect anyone to fall in love with me.So I'm not on the lookout right now.
Back to the movie...I'll give you a foolproof method to seduce anyone.
Its easy ,according to Dr.Raj Persaud, the author of 'Simply Irresistible' , because there is one psychological trick that is guaranteed to make almost anyone fall in love with you :' Identify your target's favourite emotion , then simply go out of your way to supply that emotion in quantities that person has never experienced before' he says.
That's what Raj Sharma does with Mahi. What she wants is to revisit and re-experience DDLJ .Raj does that .
Radhika needs someone to be besides her , to share her life.Raj does that.
Gayathri needs to realise on her own that she is in love.(Remember" Absence makes the heart grow fonder" !)
But seduction, like love is always mutual. It is a two-way street, and Raj requires a broken heart to realise that.
So Raj decides to make amends and apologise to Mahi and Radhika, but doing so proves to be much more difficult than he initially thought.
The questions posed to the viewers are ...
1)Will Raj get his forgiveness and Love ?
2)Will the second half be as good as the first half ?
3)Did Minissha get her teeth fixed since Shaurya ?
Let me answer those ...
1)Yes and Yes (Sorry for spoiling the movie !)
2)No.The second half is unnecessarily long and emotionally weak .Also we are forced to endure an obligatory Punjaabi Shaadi with loud dances and louder dresses.(Yash Raj would like you to believe that India ends at punjab and that southern states don't exist in bollywood)
3)My friend,a very famous dental surgeon tells me they are veneers.Quick and effective!
The surprise package of the movie is Hiten Paintal, son of Goofy Paintal(who played Shakuni in Mahabharat). He is riotously hilarious.Ranbir is okay, Bipasha is stunning, Deepika is charming and Minissha unfortunately is the odd man out (or rather odd woman out) looking plain and ugly at all times.
All in all, a good timepass movie which could have been much better if it had a shortened and taut second half.
I liked the movie (seeing how i saw it in a pirated print with some scenes cut, it was 2 hours and very endurable). Strangely enough, this movie formed the basis of the start of some conversations this week for me.
ReplyDeleteThe character of Raj, i felt, was not well defined in the movie. He has no idea what he is doing and why he is doing it. He just wants some closure, but is not sure regarding what. The way Bipasha Basu forgives him i felt was too contrived.
Minissha Lamba was my favorite in this movie, looks and acts the hyperactive part very well.
Ranbir was effective, he and Hiten recreate the "Rafoo Chakkar" chemistry that their fathers shared
I feel that Raj Sharma, the lead character got away breaking hearts, traumatising the girls for a long time and winning the gal he loves in the end.Well, the moral of the story is weak and sends out a wrong message!
ReplyDeleteI agree ...Infact , if the movie had ended at the intermission, with Raj ending up with a broken heart , it would have been better.
ReplyDeleteBut in bollywood , the hero must always win , no matter what the cost ! Sad isn't it ?
Raj was a jerk n didnt deserve the gal he loved....,.
ReplyDeleteIf i were bhipasha in the movie i would have neva forgiven raj.....EVER!!!!
He must have made you very angry, you are replying in Rap music style
ReplyDeletelol.... ya.... leavin a bride at the alter is the worst thing a guy can do....
ReplyDeleteI'll keep that in mind...
ReplyDeleteWell,I agree to Arpita's views...Forget the gal he loves,he does n't dserve anyone at all...I would never forgive such a jerk..
ReplyDeleteI remember the scene where Raj has left Radhika at the altar and the camera zooms on her face.
ReplyDeleteAll the girls had very strong physical reactions to that particular scene...
Some gasped, some shuddered, a few bodies became visibly limp, and one girl even cupped her mouth unable to contain the horror !
It was as if every female went through that experience right then and ther along with Radhika.
I realise that the scene had a very visceral impact on most women, which is why most of women would neva forgive Raj, the eternal jerk.
Yes, I wasn't watching the movie...or rather I was watching the reactions to the movie !
That scene is why i felt the ending fell flat. They try to give a justification as to why Bipasha would forgive him. But, it was a lost cause because of the way they filmed his betrayal
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna rap a reply here...
ReplyDeleteYo Yo Yo...
Raj sharma with a silly smirk,
He's a casanova ,
Dude's an eternal flirt ,
Breakin hearts till it hurts ,
But you know what
He's a big Jerk
Yo , Ah-ha, Yeah yeah !
Booya !
hmmm,....better watch out next time...lol..
ReplyDeleteHa Ha...Next time !
ReplyDeleteI should concentrate more on the movie than on what the person next to me is doing !
I'll keep that in mind too ;)
