An old joke goes something like this..."If god did really exist, to him atheism would seem a much better religion than any other"
For people with no sense of humour(which is most of your garden variety religious fanatic freaks) that would seem like blasphemy...
Let us set the ground rules here.
The theist (of various categories) believes in a god which is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and a whole lotta other omnis. In short a god that is Omni-Omni or Omni-everything.
The athiest on the other hand does not believe in the existence of a supernatural being that is omni-omni or that elvis and cher are the same person.
The way I see it, all blasphemy seems like a joke.Blasphemy becomes an incosequential joke when one realises all the powers and properties attributed to the gods i.e being omni-omni or omni-everything.
I want to explore the Blasphemy paradox from both points of view - the religious fanatic's and the atheist's.
Let us begin with the Theist's Version Of the Blasphemy paradox
It is Blasphemy to acknowledge blasphemy.
By taking blasphemy seriously - the fanatic has accepted that he is angered by the notion of the blasphemer regarding a possibility god not being a omni-omni ,and blasphemed himself in doing so by entering the thought of God's lessened status below omni-omni(even if it has reduced god's status below omni-omni only by an humanly indistinguishable infinitesimal level)
The only way the theist can be safe is by completely dis-acknowledging all form of blasphemy.
(I might suggest that Whenever he hears blasphemy - he can go 'lalalalala - I can't hear you - lalalala')......
Blasphemer's Paradox (For Atheists)
There is no such thing called blasphemy.
Ok,you don't believe in God,tooth fairy, santa,Holy Ganesha,Gilgamesh or yahweh or even all powerful J.C.You don't believe that there exists anything that is omni-omni.
Fair Enough.
So who are you blaspheming exactly, if you are trying to blaspheme?Definitely not the non-existent gods!
Maybe this is simply a tactic that you have invented to grab some attention from angry fanatics ,because you were chronically ignored as children and are deeply attention starved.
A note to agnostics:
I haven't forgotten about you.
Hey people, please make up your mind about making up your mind.
Sitting on the fence might feel safe, but sooner or later one of the other sides will knock you down.
